Come Thou Long Expected Jesus

Come, Thou long expected Jesus. Born to set Thy people free;

From our fears & sins release us, Let us find our rest in Thee.

Israel's strength & consolation, Hope of all the earth Thou art;

Dear desire of every nation, Joy of every longing heart.

Born Thy people to deliver, Born a child & yet a King,

Born to reign in us forever, Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.

By Thine own eternal Spirit Rule in all our hearts alone;

Jeremiah 31: 31-33

“The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel & the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant that I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt—a covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, says the Lord. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my law within them, & I will write it on their hearts; & I will be their God, & they shall be my people.”

Luke 3: 2b-6 

“During the high priesthood of Annas & Caiaphas, the word of God came to John, son of Zechariah in the wilderness.  He went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah, The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight. Every valley shall be filled, & every mountain & hill shall be made low, & the crooked shall be made straight, & the rough ways made smooth, & all flesh shall see the salvation of God.’ ”
